12 Years a Slave is a leading film contender with seven nominations, including a best director nod for Briton Steve McQueen.
Britain's Chiwetel Ejiofor could take away the prize for best dramatic actor for 12 Years a Slave, and faces countryman Idris Elba in the same category for his portrayal of Nelson Mandela in Long Walk to Freedom.
On Saturday, a number of hopefuls including Blanchett, Chiwetel and Tom Hanks - nominated for playing Walt Disney in Saving Mr Banks - limbered up for the glittering ceremony with a tea party hosted by Bafta in Los Angeles to mark the film awards season.
Red carpet arrivals at the Golden Globes are due to begin at 22:30 GMT (14:30 Los Angeles time), while the ceremony will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
