The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has faulted the poll conducted by the African Leadership Magazine which placed Governor Akinwunmi Ambode as the best performing governor.
The poll, tagged 'Good Governance Polls for Nigeria's Top Performing Governor' started two weeks ago with Governor Ambode maintaining the lead with increased 36.1% of the total vote casts.
He closely trailed by Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra state who has polled 25% of the votes.
An overwhelming 35% popularity rating for Governor Ambode, among other governors, clearly shows his popularity as he continues to deliver good governance, promoting infrastructural development and people-centred policies that better the lives of the people of Lagos.
Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state is in the third place with 8.8%, while Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers state is in the fourth position with 7.9% of the total vote casts.
Governor, Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state sits in the fifth position with 5%
The PDP chapter in Lagos however claimed the poll was sponsored by Ambode with the aim of misleading the public.
The Punch reports that the PDP insisted that Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti and Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo have performed better than the Lagos state governor.
Gani Taofik who is the publicity secretary of the PDP in Lagos said the rating did not portray the true realities.
"Can Governor Akinwunmi Ambode walk on the streets and receive the same kind of support that Governor Fayose gets in Ekiti? Ambode's elitist style cannot be compared to that of Mimiko and Fayose, who are governors that the common man recognises and relates easily with.
"Ambode cannot match the popularity and acceptability that both Mimiko and Fayose command in Ondo and Ekiti states respectively. Fayose and Mimiko are far better than Ambode."
In reaction, the All Progressives Congress said the PDP would not see anything impressive in what Ambode has done so far.
Joe Igbokwe who is the publicity secretary of the party said: "The Lagos PDP will not acknowledge the monumental achievements recorded in the last 14 months by the Ambode administration, which are being appreciated by all and sundry.
"Nothing good can come from the Lagos PDP or the national leadership of the party. They are the same. The only thing they know how to do is to scheme to get to power and use their positions to steal everything in sight. See where they left Nigeria in 16 years."
