Female-Led Robebry Gang Battles Police, 5 Killed.

Anambra state commissioner of police, Hosea-Hassan Karma, has told newsmen that the a gun battle between a female-led robbery gang operation lasted all through the night on Monday till the early hours of Tuesday, July 19.


Operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), laid ambush on the robbers following a tip off from an arrested robbery kingpin.

The police accosted the criminals at their hideout and shot sporadically. While some of them escaped, about five of them were shot dead.

Confirming the incident, police spokesmen Ali Okechukwu, said the dead suspects were gunned down by the police during a fierce gun battle when the SARS operatives were trailing them.


He said:  "The deceased female suspect was said to be the commander of the gang while their area of specialization included car snatching, armed robbery and kidnapping.


Sophisticated weapons, charms and several stolen vehicles were recovered from the criminals," the police spokesperson added.

In a related development, a robbery suspect was on Wednesday, June 6 was set ablaze by an angry mob at Isoko quarters in Warri south local government area of Delta state.

The deceased, simply identified as Ese was allegedly part of a five-man robbery gang terrorising the area for some time.

The late Ese who was 21 years old was said to be a bus conductor. He reportedly snatched a commercial bus belonging to a police officer in Enerhen road in Warri. According to Vanguard, he however met his untimely death after he was sighted at a bus stop by the angry mob.

Eye witnesses squealed that the mob hit the late Ese with hard objects before setting him ablaze. Similarly, five suspects had been killed in the last two months in Warri and its environs through jungle justice.
