1     *Joshua was born in Watford, Hertfordshire to a Nigerian mother and a British father of Nigerian and Irish decent. The Super Heavyweight champion has a tattoo on his right upper arm of Africa with Nigeria outlined.

2    *Before rising to Olympic and Professional boxing fame, Joshua worked on a construction sites as a Bricklayer.


3    *Joshua was a late bloomer in boxing as he was only persuaded to try boxing by his cousin Ben IIIyemi in 2007. Five years later he won the gold medal at London 2012.

4    *During the build-up to London Olympics, Joshua was arrested for possessing cannabis with the intent to supply; He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to a 12 month community order and 100 hours unpaid work.


5    *Joshua received the super heavyweight gold medal in august 2012 after beating 32 year old reigning Olympic Champion Roberto Cammarelle of Italy.

6    *To commemorate his victory in the 2012 Olympics, the Royal Mail painted a post box gold in Joshua’s hometown of Watford.



7    *In 2013 Joshua was awarded a Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours. The heavyweight champion received the honour for his services to boxing.


8    * Known for his tactical prowess, Joshua claims that he plays chess and reads in order to help him develop his tactical side of his game.


9    * In 2010 hours after winning the ABA title in York Hall London, Joshua turned down a staggering £50,000 to turn professional. Joshua said at the time: “Turning down that £50,000 was easy”.

1    * Joshua goes into his fight with Dillian Whyte with a 14 match unbeaten record in professional bouts. AJ has won all 14 by either technical or straight knock-out.
