Can God Trust You? - Empowerment For Today, Wednesday, 11th June 2014

On a Lighter Note

(This section of this newsletter has no Biblical or theological significance, it is only meant to make you laugh or at least smile) "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones" (Proverbs: 17:22)

The Extraction

One day, a man walks into a dentist's office and asks how much it will cost to extract wisdom teeth.

"Eighty dollars," the dentist says.
"That's a ridiculous amount," the man says. "Isn't there a cheaper way?"
"Well," the dentist says, "if you don't use an anaesthetic, I can knock it down to $60."
"That's still too expensive," the man says.
"Okay," says the dentist. "If I save on anesthesia and simply rip the teeth out with a pair of pliers, I could get away with charging $20."
"Nope," moans the man, "it's still too much."
"Hm," says the dentist, scratching his head. "If I let one of my students do it for the experience, I suppose I could charge you just $10."
"Marvelous," says the man, "book my wife for next Tuesday!"

A Word for Today

Can God trust you?

"And her [promised] husband Joseph, being a just and upright man and not willing to expose her publicly and to shame and disgrace her, decided to repudiate and dismiss (divorce) her quietly and secretly."
-Matt 1:19 {AMP}

A lot of us are hoping and waiting for God to use us in a big way, but God is looking at some small things in our lives, not a lot was said about Joseph- Jesus's earthly father, but have you ever stopped to wonder why he was chosen? Why did God trust this man so much to bring up His son, there must be something's about him that caught God's attention. God was getting ready to send His Son into the world and because He knew that the environment we are brought up in will ultimately affect us in life, He had to make sure that the environment Jesus will grow up in is suitable. He chose Joseph, he trusted this one man to bring up His son and prepare Him for His assignment on earth. However Joseph had certain attributes that made God trust him. Our text today tells us that he was a just and upright man, so much so that when he thought Mary had cheated on him, and he had every right to disgrace her publicly and take her to the city centre to be stoned to death according to the law of Moses, he still decided to help her and cover her 'shame'. Some people always look for ways to bring others down; they are so nasty and know what is wrong with every other person. Gal 6:1, 'Brothers, if someone is caught in a sin, you who are spiritual should restore him gently. But watch yourself, or you also may be tempted'.
Bringing people down and killing them with your mouths adds nothing to you, you may go around and tell everyone what brother so and so, or what sister so and so did, and make them loose face with everyone, but that adds nothing to you. The bible says we should be merciful as our heavenly Father is merciful, if you want God to trust great things into your life then you must make up your mind to stop criticising and start helping others around you as Joseph did.
