"Embrace the Word" - Empowerment for Today, Wednesday, 28th May 2014

On a Lighter Note

(This section of this newsletter has no Biblical or theological significance, it is only meant to make you laugh or at least smile) "A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones" (Proverbs: 17:22)

Senior Breakfast

We went to breakfast at a restaurant where the "seniors' special" was two eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast for $1.99. "Sounds good," my wife said. "But I don't want the eggs." "Then I'll have to charge you two dollars and forty-nine cents because you're ordering a la carte," the waitress warned her. "You mean I'd have to pay for not taking the eggs?" My wife asked incredulously. "I'll take the special." "How do you want your eggs?" "Raw and in the shell," my wife replied. She took the two eggs home. DON'T MESS WITH SENIORS!"

A Word for Today

Embrace the Word

"Each time Jehudi finished reading three or four columns, the king took a knife and cut off that section of the scroll. He then threw it into the fire, section by section, until the whole scroll was burned up. Neither the king nor his attendants showed any signs of fear or repentance at what they heard".
-Jeremiah 36:23-24 (NLT)

The bible says that the Word of God is a two edged sword piercing into the hearts of men, some can't simply stand certain truths in the Word of God, God's word is supposed to change and challenge. For instance, some argue and refuse to obey and believe God in the issue of tithing (Mal 3:8-10), and so many other issues. King Jehoiakim sat by a fire, listening to the words Jeremiah had dictated to Baruch. As he listened, he cut up the scroll which represented the bible then, and threw it into the brazier, until it "was consumed in the fire." Even when three officials pleaded with him not to burn it, "he would not listen." But the king had much to learn! He might destroy a scroll, but God's Word is forever "settled in heaven" (Psalm 119:89). Jeremiah proceeded to dictate another scroll, even adding "many similar words." We need to embrace the totality of God's Word, not pick and choose what suits us; the Bible is the actual word of God and is to be taken literally word for word. 2 Tim 2:16-17, "All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work."

Make up your mind not to waver or compromise, don't follow in the steps of Jehoiakim, commit yourself to studying and obeying the Bible. It's the Word of God. Revere it! Believe it! Obey it! God will bless you for your commitment and faithful obedience.
