Mass Burial For Victims Of Herdsmen Attack On Plateau Community.

A mass  burial has been organised for the victims of Monday's attack on Shonong community of Bashit District in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.  This was even as the Special Task Force on Jos crisis, Operation Safe Haven has said that 10 more bodies of victims were recovered  bringing the number of those killed to 16.

However, report from the area indicated that 10 people were buried  yesterday while the number of those who  died in the hospital, mainly children and  aged women, were said to have increased. A source in the area said in all, about 33 people have died with some burnt in their huts.

At the Vom Christian Hospital, there were women and children with injuries including those who lost their limbs and those with machete cuts in the faces, limbs and back.
Most of the victims were still in shock and unable to talk about their experiences. About  eight victims, including a woman whose jaw was almost cut off were referred to Jos University Teaching Hospital.

Reacting to what he termed as conflicting reports about the casualties,  the STF spokesman, Capt. Salisu Mustapha said two persons, were attacked on their way to the farm by suspected Fulani herdsmen and when contacted, STF personnel deployed around the area swiftly moved to the scene of the incident to repel the attack.

At the  scene, they discovered that the entire village was also under attack and houses had been set ablaze. In the village, nine corpses, including seven charred  bodies were discovered while five others were injured. Those injured were taken to the Vom Christian Hospital. He said that  normalcy had returned to the area as STF personnel patrol the entire area.

The commander of STF, Major General David Enetie, accompanied by the interim administrator of the local government area, had visited the scene for on-the-spot assessment.

Appealing to the people to allow security operatives take control of the security situation, he urged them not to take laws into their hands.
