Queen Criticised For Wearing "Fur Coat" At Sandringham On Christmas Day

Her Majesty was snapped yesterday morning wearing the coat, which she has been seen in on several ocassions before, at her country estate while chatting with the Duchess of Cambridge.

She later changed her attire as she greeted well-wishers along with other members of the Royal Family before attending a church service.

The charity People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), said wearing fur was 'insensitive and unacceptable'.

'How can Queen Elizabeth … not yet have learned what's right and wrong and abandoned fur, the product of immense suffering?' said spokesman Ben Williamson.

The Queen was later pictured in a red coat at a Christmas Day morning service at a church in Sandringham (Picture: Reuters)
'Animals are routinely strangled, electrocuted and skinned alive for their pelts. Fur farming was banned in 2000 because it's a cruel industry that no longer represents British values.

'We truly hope that the Queen gets with these more enlightened times and chooses to wear something more humane in the future.'

Andrew Tyler, director of Animal Aid, added: 'The Queen should not be wearing fur – it's as simple as that.

'I wonder why [she] did not wear that particular coat to church. Perhaps she is becoming a furtive fur wearer.'

Earlier, the monarch reflected on prominent events from the past year during her Christmas broadcast, including the birth of Prince George.
