How to make money from moringa 3.

1. Leaves/Powder
2. Seed
3. Oil
Leaves: Presently the leaves are dried to 9-11% moisture content and sold in branded plastic jars. Can be further processed to tablets, capsules, caplets, ampoules etc. or incorporated into sweets, biscuits, candies, fries etc. or bagged into semi permeable bags as (slim) and teas, this can be dosed with many flavours e.g ginger, mint, vanilla, strawberry, menthol etc. or further processed as a vitality/energy drink e.g Zija Drink (go to www.Zija com), canned and freezed is a veritable energy drink.
Oil: The oil is the most potent part of the plant. Matured foods are macerated and the oil processed. This oil is incorporated into pharmaceutical, ointments, rubs shampoo, body cream, hair cream etc. Because of its high yield the oil is now being widely employed as biodiesel/biofuel for machinery with excellent emission reduction patters.
Market (s) for this process alone is in the region of N US $ 140 billion. The oil can also be further processed by cracking into vegetable oil, oleoresin, protein lecithin (as animal feeds).
Cake: By far the major use of the cake is in its employment as water purifier. This co-agulant/flocculant market exhibits a definite trend to move away from use of inorganic chemical co-agulants. The health and the environmental benefits are very significant in addition to price differentials.
Conventional coagulants, cliently Aluminum sulface (Alum) costs about US & 75-200 in EU. The total production cost of moringa pressed cake is far below that amount. This cake market is also very big, wide, high volume and fast moving commodity. Consider that the Eleyele water works (Ibadan) heats an average of 68,000,000 litres of water daily.
A dosage of 20mg/litre will give an annual (demand) requirement of & approximately 480MT of pressed cake per annum. This translates to about 120 of moringa pods from about 4 hectares of moringa plantation. There is an existing moringa cake water works in Borno. The cake is also used as animal feeds supplement as it contains a lot protein.
Export: All moringa products enumerated above have export values as markets in US, EU and Asia are always demanding for these products. Most importers will demand for strictly organic cultivation and insist on coming down to Nigeria to see it before committing their orders.
Potential importers demand for strict phytosamitary organic conditions with respect to chemical pesticides, fertilizers, regulators etc.

MARKET ANALYSIS FOR MORINGA PRODUCTS IN NIGERIA
Moringa as a whole is very new in Nigeria, but the awareness on its usefulness is just coming up. Presently, we only have moringa powder being produced and sold in Nigeria by very few people and not in organized or corporate way. Presently about 100g pack is being sold at N500. Forward looking investor can catch on the fact that we are having an emerging market for Moringa in Nigeria by producing Moringa Powder.
Additional investment of N2 million will set up a small scale Moringa powder processing outfit. If one can successfully produce and market 100 metric tonnes of Moringa powder annually, a turnover of N40 million is guaranteed. With the Nigerian population of 150 million and on the assumption that 10% of the population will take 100g pack per annum, (very conservative) the demand for Moringa powder is put at 7,500 metric tonne on annual basis. The present production level is put at a maximum of 500 metric tonnes per annum.
In this regard, just about 6.7% of the estimated demand is being met. An outfit that will produce 100 metric tonnes of powder per annum will meet just 1.4% of the un-satisfied market. Moringa products such as tea and capsule are currently produced in low quantity in the country. This is another investment opportunity.
