Musa Sada, Supervising Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development on Friday in Katsina, said the Federal Government would provide 720,000 housing units annually as part of efforts to meet the nation's housing needs.
He made this known at the inauguration of 102 Ministerial Pilot Housing Scheme.
Sada, who is also the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, said the scheme was aimed at providing affordable houses for the populace in line with the Federal Government's transformation agenda.
The minister revealed that 1,500 housing units were at various stages of completion in various states of the federation, while he laid the foundation for another 150 housing units in Katsina under the second phase of the scheme.
Responding, Gimba Yau Kumo, the Managing Director, Federal Mortgage Bank said he was delighted that the project was completed on schedule and according to specifications.
Kumo, who disclosed that another 150 housing units had been approved for Katsina State under phase II of the scheme, urged the state government to provide basic infrastructure in the area so as to enhance the living condition of the residents. He said the bank had approved Two billion naira in estate development loans for Katsina State as part of its demonstration to collaborate with state governments toward housing delivery.
Governor Ibrahim Shema remarked that shelter was a basic necessity for human beings, and commended the Federal Government for its efforts towards ensuring that every Nigerian had access to decent accommodation
